The Skills Enhancement Program 

The Skills Enhancement Program incorporates foundational elements essential for success in Stage 7 English, focusing on strengthening language proficiency, critical reading abilities, writing skills and advanced comprehension skills. Through targeted lessons and personalized support, students will develop the necessary tools to excel in the more advanced academic challenges of Stage 7.

The Program consists of the following categories: 

  • Remedial Comprehension Course
  • Remedial Parts of Speech Course
  • Remedial Punctuation Course
  • Remedial Sentence Construction Course

Outcomes of Skills Enhancement Program 

Remedial Comprehension Course: 

  • Improved Reading Skills: Enhanced ability to comprehend and interpret written texts.
  • Increased Vocabulary: Expanded knowledge of words and phrases, contributing to better overall comprehension.
  • Effective Inference: Improved capacity to draw logical conclusions and make inferences from textual information.
  • Critical Analysis: Enhanced skills in critically evaluating and analyzing written material.

Remedial Parts of Speech Course

  • Grammatical Proficiency: Strengthened understanding and application of different parts of speech, including nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, etc.
  • Correct Usage: Improved ability to use parts of speech appropriately in sentences, leading to more accurate and precise communication.
  • Language Precision: Enhanced command over language for effective written and verbal expression.

Remedial Sentence Construction Course: 

  • Structurally Sound Sentences: Improved ability to construct grammatically correct and well-structured sentences.
  • Varied Sentence Structure: Development of skills to create sentences with diverse structures, adding richness to written expression.
  • Coherent Paragraphs: Enhanced proficiency in organizing sentences into coherent paragraphs for effective communication.

Skills Enhancement Program Timetable 

These courses are encouraged because they address specific areas of challenge identified in the Baseline Assessment, ensuring that students acquire the fundamental language skills needed for success in Stage 7 English. The Remedial Comprehension Course enhances the ability to understand and interpret texts, while the Remedial Parts of Speech Course focuses on improving grammatical knowledge. The Remedial Punctuation Course and Remedial Sentence Construction Course aim to refine writing skills, ensuring clarity and coherence in written communication. Together, these courses provide a comprehensive foundation, equipping students with the necessary tools to excel in more advanced English studies and fostering a strong basis for lifelong language proficiency.

In addition to these courses, there are also three additional assessments for students to evaluate their progress.

The process of administering English Baseline Assessments, coupled with a comprehensive Skills Enhancement Program, serves as a proactive and adaptive approach to supporting students on their academic journey, promoting individual growth, and laying the groundwork for continued success in advanced studies.
