Program: Grade 6
A baseline assessment is typically an initial evaluation conducted at the beginning of a course or academic program. It serves as a benchmark to measure the starting point of a student's knowledge, skills, and understanding. The purpose of a baseline assessment is to gather information about students' existing capabilities. This information can then be used to tailor instruction, identify areas for improvement, and track progress over time. The transition from Stage 6 to Stage 7 involves an adaptation in curriculum, expectations, and the complexity of content. Assessments during this transition aim to gauge how well students have grasped the foundational knowledge and skills from the previous stage and how prepared they are for the challenges of the upcoming stage.
Mathematics Baseline Assessment
The Mathematics Baseline Assessment measures the following knowledge points:
This content area covers counting and sequences, money, integers and powers, place value, ordering and rounding as well as fractions, decimals, percentages, ratio and proportion.
Geometry and Measure deals with time, geometrical reasoning, shapes and measurements as well as the position and transformation of 2D shapes.
This exciting content area explore and interpret data to answer statistical questions.
A solid foundation of the content of these knowledge points is vitally important for future success in Mathematics. They work together to help students recognise connections of Mathematical concepts, as they engage in creative Mathematical thinking to generate and improve numerical fluency.
The Skills Enhancement Program is based on those foundational elements essential for success in Stage 7 Mathematics. It focuses on strengthening understanding as well as the correct application of concepts covered in the areas of number, geometry and measure, statistics and probability. Through targeted lessons and personalized support, students will develop the required foundational skills in order to excel in the more advanced academic challenges of Stage 7 Mathematics and beyond.
